HOLLOW WORK
Description
In hollow work (kurimono), gouges and chisels are used to hand-carve hollow vessels from a block of wood. Complicated curves and rounded forms are a common feature of hollow work.
Process
-
1.An outline is created and traced onto the wood.
-
2.The wood is cut away along the lines of the design.
-
3.A chisel is used to hollow out the surface and create depth.
-
4.The finished piece is coated with lacquer.
